Day 1 and 2 : Oops in Lisbon

In Hope BC, we meet a biker who tells us a special faster route to the Vancouver airport. All I can say is never trust a biker in Hope BC. It took an hour longer that it should have to get to the airport.

When we arrived at the Vancouver airport in¨Sonya-style¨perfectly organized, we checked in and suddenly all my oraganization went to pot. The agent checked us in as the wrong family of Ramseys, which resulted in 45 mins of waiting around, our luggage getting misplaced and almost sent on an other flight and Kevin and Leo not getting any tickets printed for the second lag of our trip, from London to Lisbon. Oops! We got driven to the gate because the mix up took so long..but we made the flight ;).

In London, Kevin looks for his and Leo´s paper tickets to get on plane but the plane is overbooked and he is on a stand-by list. oops! Can you imagine a hungrey Leo staying with Kevin in London and me with 3 kids in Lisbon. Kevin wrangles up a tickets so we all make it on board

In Lisbon we go to collect our rental car, only they make us put the value of the car on our Visa, something to do with insurance...  a mistake.. as this eats up all our purchasing power with our Visa Card (oops) ... In the end we do get a car and while our visa remains locked for 48 hours. We make do. ;)

In Lisbon we explore with the kids, who are exhusted and wait till dark to find a hotel. Oops! Lisbon is having a rock concert and every hotel in town is full. We spend the later portion of our evening on the  internet at a Starbucks to find a hotel way out of town... only problem is that it is dark and we have no map (we forgot our Guide book in the car in Vancouver. Oops!). Lisbon is not well marked either so this results in us making two trips back and forth on the hwy to and from Lisbon before we find the hotel - A funny little dive on the back side of a one way street with no signage (now we know why they have availability). lol

So today was day two and it was much less exciting. We went to an aquarium and drove direct to Spain on one hwy. we found the hotel and the kids (who only had eaten a donut all day finally got supper at 930 pm and are settled in their beds.)

Despite how all this sounds, we are having a great time and laughing at most of it...

  1. I don't get it. All of this, and you're still laughing and don't seem the slightest bit stressed out. Were the kids crying? That's the thing that would get me. You're so collected - shoulda seen me on a few days last week. Nothing near your drama, and yet I'm so on edge. Props to you, sonn.

  2. Wow, this seems like a comedy of errors! I'm happy that you managed to laugh through it all - and I hope the kids remember the positive feeling of it all. They are pretty patient! Well done on juggling everything. I spent a day and a half in Lisbon a few years ago with my friend Matt; we visited museums and traipsed all over the historic streets - so pretty. Then we drank mojitos too late into the night; we stayed in a little hotel with an inner courtyard. Loved it!

  3. Wow, that is quite the beginning! When things don't go quite as smoothly as one plans, sometimes it is better just to LAUGH!!!
